What is Arcano and why was it created?

File sharing is a fundamental necessity in the modern workplace. It enables collaboration and increases efficiency, which is why it has become essential for most companies to conduct their business. Even more so since the start of the global pandemic as more people are working from home than ever before.

Unfortunately, data is shared via unsecure channels far too often. Many people still rely on

email or other unsecured channels to transfer confidential information. Often large cloud

providers harvest that data to create more refined profiles of their customers, but without

end-to-end protection the data can also be obtained by malicious attackers with harmful

intentions.

To ensure a high level of security the shared data should be transferred through end-to-end

encrypted data channels. There are many reasons to protect confidential data ranging from

security relevance (e.g. in the case of floor plans for airports or prisons) to legal protection

(e.g. for documents shared between lawyers and clients), all the way to basic privacy rights

(e.g. medical information such as the results of a blood test). This data is often classified,

confidential or contains personal data, which deserves special protection as demanded by

the GDPR, which poses the threat of imposing large fines if proper measures to protect this

data have not been taken..

ARCANO was built to provide a simple user experience when sending or receiving files,

while ensuring a high level of protection through end-to-end encryption. As a result even the

developers of ARCANO itself cannot access the data that clients upload. Wherever possible,

the file metadata is also encrypted and therefore also remains inaccessible to ARCANO

developers, providing thus the best security and privacy for our clients.
